Telecommunications provider 3 Mobile has launched a WiFi mobile broadband router; the D100 Wireless Router, unsurprisingly just weeks after T-Mobile launched their product.
The company believes that the new technology will be an improvement on current mobile broadband technology, where you are required to plug your USB modem or “dongle” directly into a PC or laptop, by instead plugging your modem into the router so that the Internet connection can by shared amongst a number of computers in a business or home.
This helps maintain the cost advantage of not having a fixed line Internet connection, as there is no need to have a landline, buy extra dongles or mobile contracts, although it should be noted that users would be sharing the download allowances and speeds just as they would with home broadband connection.
As these allowances are not as plentiful as with a home broadband connection, the mobile broadband package should be carefully chosen as if you exceed your usage allowance additional charges may apply.
3’s router has a RRP of £69.99 which is very reasonable and is available on its own or with bundles starting from just £15pm for a 5GB data allowance.
