Free Laptops

Many of the mobile broadband providers provide laptops or notebooks with mobile broadband packages as more of us become on the move.

Many of us now use a laptop instead of a desktop at home, at the office or at college as flexibility becomes more important.

We at mobile.broadband-onthemove scour the Internet everyday to bring you all deals that you can see in one easy location. Compare free laptops with ease to find the best deal to suit you.

Free Laptops with Mobile Broadband

Free laptops with mobile broadband are becoming very popular as customers are choosing to spread the cost of the laptop over the length of the contract. The cheapest contract available at the moment is £17.50 per month, which is very affordable for someone who might not be able to afford to buy a laptop outright.

Free Laptops with Built-in Mobile Broadband

Built in mobile broadband simply means that the broadband facility is built in to the laptop, so these deals won’t require a separate dongle. The laptop has a SIM card inside the laptop instead.

Are “free laptops” really free?

There are no upfront fees for the vast majority of mobile broadband and laptop deals. You’ll be signing up for an 18 month or 24 month contract and will walking away with a brand new shiny laptop.

In reality, the majority of free laptop deals are subsidised by the provider and in essence you are purchasing a laptop on credit. This is great for those of you who can’t afford the costs pf purchasing a laptop outright.

A quick calculation you could do to ensure you aren’t paying too much over the odds is simple:

Cost of free laptop deal = £25 per month
Total over 24 months = £600 per year

Now, we need to factor in the mobile broadband element of the contract:

Mobile broadband = £15 per month
Total over 24 months = £360 per year

Cost of laptop within contract = £240

As you can see from above, as long as the cost of the laptop within the contract doesn’t exceed the true cost of the laptop, you are getting a great deal.

Are “free laptop” deals really worth it?

Yes, the majority of free laptop deals are actually worth it. You walk away with a brand new laptop without having to pay any upfront costs. It’s more or less the same deal as taking out a mobile phone contract, but instead of getting a “free mobile phone” you are receiving a “free laptop”.

It’s advisable to use the calculation as laid out above if you are ever in doubt.

What do I need to bear in mind before purchasing mobile broadband with a free laptop?

- The true cost of the laptop:
Follow our calculation above to ensure that you’re not paying over the odds for your laptop.

Obviously, this most bother some people and they will expect to pay slightly more for a laptop that they can get their hands on straight away without any upfront cost.

- Laptop specification: Make sure that you have a look at the specification to ensure that the laptop will suit your needs.

If you just require the laptop for surfing the web and word processing, it’s likely that all laptops will be perfect for you, however if you’re into graphic design or need a high spec laptop for gaming or running multiple programmes, you might need a laptop with a bit more power.

Have a scan over the main laptop components such as:

Processor (CPU):
Also known as a Central Processing Unit, you can think of this as your laptop’s brain. It processes instructions and tells your laptop what to do.

There are two main processor manufacturers nowadays, Intel and AMD. The faster the processor the better, so look out for higher GHz or gigahertz. Dual-core means that the laptop has two processors instead of one.

Hard Drive:
This is where all of your information is saved and stored. Measured in GB or gigabytes, the more GB a hard drive has, the more can be saved, so more room for music, documents and movies.

Memory (RAM): Measured in GB or gigabytes, this is where your laptop stores all of the information. The more memory or RAM you have, the faster your machine will run. All of the laptops we have on the site will have at least 1GB of RAM which is more than sufficient to surf the web and process documents.

Screen Size/Weight of the Laptop:
Screens come in a range of sizes from 10.1 inches to standard size of 15.6 inches. The smaller the laptop screen, the more lightweight the laptop will usually be. If you are often on the move, it’s advisable to have a laptop which is as lightweight as possible.

Operating System: Most laptop packages will come with Microsoft’s Windows 7 or Windows XP. XP is slightly older than Windows 7, but both are sound operating systems for the average user.

Powerful Laptops with Mobile Broadband

There are some respectable laptops that come with mobile broadband out there at the moment.

It’s only normal that the laptops that are available won’t be suitable for everyone’s needs with some people requiring something a bit more high specification.
