Urban Airship provides simple and easy-to-use push notifications and in-app purchases apart from other key features. They recently closed a funding round and ended up with $5.4 million to help power mobile applications. Foundry Group is leading Series B, along with other existing investors Founders Co-op and True Ventures. Also, the Foundry Group’s Managing Director Jason Mendelson is set to join Urban Airship’s board of directors.
Urban Airship allows and makes it easier for mobile developers to utilize features modern mobile platforms or operating systems like iOS and Android. And the best part is that they don’t have to reinvent the wheel for each application every time. There are multiple features that are provided by Urban Airship; there are campaigns across apps running on multiple mobile platforms or operating systems (for example, the mobile operating systems Android, BlackBerry, and iOS for Apple products). According to Urban Airship, as of now, the Urban Airship has over 1 billion messages. Urban Airship also offers functionality related to monetization, including ever-popular in-app purchases.
Urban Airship now also supports subscriptions, which is a brand new feature offered by them. This will prove to be very important and highly useful to developers and publishers over time. Urban Airship powers the subscriptions and these subscriptions can be seen on the newly released Newsweek iPad application. The newsweek iPad application is the first periodical to be featured in an iPad. This will no doubt become a popular practice. So get ready to find more periodicals and magazines on Apple iPad. We’ll be seeing more of them before long.
Other clients for this include the highly popular Tapulous, LivingSocial, and Gowalla. The startup Urban Airship closed a $1.1 million funding round in February previously, and their total funding goes up to a grand total of $6.5 million with the newest addition from the latest funding round.
