Orange announce their plans for laptops bundled with mobile broadband

Orange have announced their plans to commence bundling laptops with mobile broadband together for both individuals and business users from August 2008.

Orange agreed deals with computer companies Asus and Hewlett Packard, to add laptops to its mobile broadband packages when subscribing to a 24 month mobile broadband contract.

Consumers paying £25 per month for the “Connected Laptops” range will receive a Asus Eee PC 900 16G laptop with USB modem on the 'Internet Everywhere' tariff. This also includes a 3GB data allowance and 100 texts which can be sent from the laptop.

Business customers will have the choice of three Hewlett-Packard laptops, with the monthly cost of the tariff dependant on the value of the laptop.

Each price plan has the same offer of unlimited data, and 500 Wi-Fi minutes which can be used in any of Oranges 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots.

Customers opting for £35 per month tariffs will receive an HP 6730s Intel Celeron laptop, and £40 per month customers receive an HP 6730s Intel Core 2 Duo, which come with USB modems.

Customers on the £45 per month tariff will receive an HP 6730b Intel Core 2 Duo with an embedded SIM card.

It appears that Orange is taking on iPhone rival O2 - Apple's partner for the iPhone in the UK with this fantastic offer of bundling laptops together instead of mobile phones.

The ‘Connected Laptops’ packages are cheaper than the iPhone’s lowest monthly price of £30 with O2, with there also being a one of charge for the phone itself of £99.

Francois Mahieu, devices director of Orange UK, said the company plans to expand the range of laptops offered in the future.

He said in a statement: "Over time, we will be looking to expand our offering even further, with more suppliers who are at the forefront of laptop technology, making it even easier for our customers to connect to the internet seamlessly, whether it is for work or play."
