Skype is software that is downloaded onto your laptop or PC and through this, you can call anyone in the world at any time of the day and it is absolutely free. Yes, absolutely nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

It's hard to believe but there are no catches involved! Even the Skype software is free!

 

How does Skype work?

Skype uses your Internet connection to turn your computer into an Internet phone to make free Skype-to-Skype calls.

The person you would like to call also needs to have Skype installed on their laptop or PC, and you both also will need speakers and a microphone to use Skype.

If you have a webcam, you can also make free video calls.

 

Will Skype work on my laptop/PC?

Skype is available for Windows, Max OS X, and Linux.

System requirements are a laptop/PC running at least Windows 2000, XP or Vista . (Windows 2000 users require DirectX 9.0 for video calls).

A computer with at least a 1GHz processor and 256 MB RAM is recommended.

For High Quality Video calls you will need a high quality video webcam and software, a dual-core processor computer and a fast broadband connection (384 kbps).

 

Is Skype available for any mobile devices?

Skype is available for Windows Mobile, WiFi phones, cordless phones, 3 Skypephone, Nokia N800/N810.

How Secure is Skype?

Skype have taken a number of steps to ensure that users are protected and that their software is same from hackers and criminals.

Skype issues every user of Skype a "digital certificate" that any user of Skype can present in order to establish the identity of the person placing or receiving a Skype call or chat.

A digital certificate is an electronic credential that can be used to establish the identity of a Skype user, wherever that user may be located.
